3D Areola / Nipple Tattoo

What to Expect from 3D Areola & Nipple Tattooing

For many people, the final step in their healing journey isn't a surgery — it's restoring the appearance of the areola and nipple. 3D Areola & Nipple Tattooing is a specialised paramedical tattoo procedure that creates the illusion of a natural nipple and areola using carefully placed pigment, colour, shading, and highlights.

This treatment is often sought by individuals whose chest appearance has changed due to mastectomy, breast reconstruction, breast reduction or lift surgery, injury, burns, gender-affirming surgery, or naturally uneven pigmentation. It can also be used to restore lost colour, improve symmetry, or replicate one nipple onto the other side.

The Consultation

Every treatment begins with a consultation. During this appointment, we'll discuss your goals, medical history, and desired outcome. Together we'll choose the size, shape, placement, and colour of the areola to ensure the result complements your skin tone and anatomy.

The Procedure

Before we begin, a topical numbing cream is applied to maximise comfort. Once the design has been mapped and approved, specialised pigments are implanted into the skin using advanced tattooing techniques.

The artistry lies in the shading and colour placement, which creates the realistic three-dimensional appearance of a nipple, even on a flat surface.

Does it Hurt?

Unlike traditional tattoos, your comfort is a priority from beginning to end.
A numbing cream is applied before treatment to help minimise sensitivity, and a lidocaine gel is used throughout the procedure to provide ongoing comfort as the treatment progresses.

I believe that anyone who has already experienced the trauma, illness, surgery, or injury, should not have to endure unnecessary pain.

Your healing journey deserves to end with care, dignity, and comfort. Every effort is made to make your experience as comfortable and pain-free as possible.

Immediately After Treatment

The area may appear darker, brighter, or slightly red immediately after the procedure. This is completely normal and part of the healing process. As the skin heals, the colour will soften and settle, typically healing 40–60% lighter than it appears on the day of treatment.

Healing & Touch-Ups

Healing generally takes around 4–8 weeks. During this time, the skin naturally sheds and regenerates, which can affect pigment retention. Because every person's skin heals differently, a touch-up appointment is often recommended to refine colour, improve retention, and perfect the final result.

How long do the results last?

The short answer is FOREVER.

I choose to work with true permanent tattoo ink, rather than the semi-permanent pigments commonly used within paramedical tattooing. This is a very intentional choice and one that sets my work apart.

I believe it’s unfair to use semi-permanent pigments for procedures intended to make a lasting difference in someone’s confidence and physical integrity.

More Than a Tattoo

3D Areola & Nipple Tattooing is about more than pigment. It's about restoring confidence, helping you reconnect with your body, and providing a finishing touch that many people find deeply meaningful after a difficult journey.

Every treatment is performed with compassion, privacy, and respect, in a safe and supportive environment where your comfort and wellbeing come first.
